Environmental audits

The underlying reason to do an environmental audit is to uncover emerging environmental problems and fix them before they fester into something costly and unmanageable. It is unfortunate that many facility managers view audits as tests that they need to pass. Equally unfortunate is that some auditors use checklists and assign scores to an audit. So an audit that checks off 80 out of 100 yes/no questions gets a score of 80%. Where is the incentive for the facility to fix problems if it thinks it gets an excellent score?

Chapter 7 of my
new book “A PRACTICAL Approach to Environmental Compliance” discusses this problem and possible solutions to it.
